The Key of Humility

The Stopper That Seals the Bucket
Imagine this.
You’re pouring water into a bucket. But no matter how
fast or how long you pour, the water never rises. Why?
Because the bucket is full of holes.
This is the story of many hardworking people. They’re
earning. In fact, some are earning more than ever -
promotions, side hustles, booming businesses. But their
financial bucket never fills.
Because the issue isn’t the flow in, it’s the leak
out.
Here’s the good news:
You don’t need to earn millions to build wealth. You just need to seal the holes.
Let’s Do the Math
Let’s say you save KES 5,000 by
moving to a slightly cheaper house.
Cut back KES 3,000 by
eating out less and cooking more.
Then adjust your transport and save another
KES 2,000 by
taking public transport.
Just like that - you have
KES 10,000 extra every month.
Now, invest that KES 10,000 in a savings account that earns 14% interest per year. Leave it to grow for 25 years.
By the end, you’ll have
KES 23 million.
You’ll only have put in
KES 3 million - the rest of the
KES 20 million, is interest your
money earned for you.
It's money made by humility.
The Pressure That Leaks Your Wealth
So why don’t more people do this?
Because of one thing:
pressure to impress.
We feel it when:
- A friend buys a better car, and we want one too.
- Our neighbor’s kids go to an expensive school, and we feel we must keep up.
- Colleagues move to fancy estates, and we feel behind.
This pressure makes us spend more than we should, just to look like we’re doing well - even when we’re struggling inside.
But here’s the truth:
Looking rich and being rich are not the same.
One is loud. The other is lasting.
Humility: The Hidden Strength
Many people think humility means weakness or lack. It
doesn’t.
Real humility is strength under control.
It’s being able to:
- Drive a simple car, even when you can afford a fancier one.
- Say “not now” to upgrades, even when the money is there.
- Choose a lifestyle that’s way below your income - because you’re focused on the future.
Humility helps you think long-term.
It allows you to live with purpose, not pressure.
It’s the choice to live like someone who can’t afford
the bread - even when you secretly own the bakery.
It stops the leaks in the bucket so that even a little
water can rise.
So, What is Humility?
The Bible gives a clear picture in
Philippians 2:5–8.
Jesus had all the glory of heaven, but He chose to take
a lower position and serve. He humbled Himself.
That’s real humility.
And the Bible adds:
“God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
(James 4:6)
When pride leads, even the best plan can fall apart.
But humility invites grace. And grace makes things grow.
A common excuse is: “I don’t have enough to save.” When humility enters, options for freeing up money to save open up.
When Money Comes – Stay Grounded
Sooner or later, you’ll experience a financial boom - maybe a promotion, a big deal, a bonus, or a gift.
And the temptation will come:
Upgrade your life. Move. Buy. Show it off.
But here’s a better idea:
pause. Don’t rush
Use that boom as seed - not spending money. Let it work for you before you spend it.
Wait 6 to 12 months. Invest it. Let it grow. Then raise your lifestyle slowly, using profits - not the original money.
Think of your money like a family:
- The capital is the parent.
- The profits are the children.
- The compounded interest are the grandchildren.
You don’t eat the parent - you live off the
grandchildren.
That’s the secret to lasting wealth.
Quiet Growth, Loud Results
Let people think nothing has changed.
Let them wonder why you’re still living simply.
Smile. Keep building.
One day, they’ll realize - you weren’t just buying
bread.
You were quietly building the bakery.
That’s humility. That’s wisdom. That’s kingdom living.
Final Word
So when the money comes - and it will - don’t waste it.
- Save it.
- Invest it.
- Use it with purpose.
Let your results speak louder than your lifestyle.
Because humility doesn’t shout.
It builds.
Remember:
Pride spends to impress. Humility plants to grow. And
those who plant wisely?
Feed generations.
